As the recipient of armed forces awards including two Defense Superior Service and five Legions of Merit, Rear Admiral Rick Williams spent several years as commander of the Navy Surface Group Middle Pacific and Navy Region Hawaii. Rear Admiral Rick Williams remains dedicated to helping those in the armed forces and supports the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
Established in 1904, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society gives financial and educational assistance to members of the U.S. Navy and Marines as well as their family members. Its goal is to help each individual gain financial self-sufficiency and learn how to better manage his or her finances.
In November 2016, the organization announced that it would begin accepting applications for educational assistance for those pursuing an undergraduate degree during the 2017-2018 school year. Among those students eligible for applying are those under the age of 23 who are children of sailors or Marines. Money is determined based on financial need and scholastic achievement. Applicants must be high school seniors who are graduating, or full-time college students or spouses who are completing coursework toward an undergraduate degree. Students have until May 2017 to apply.
