Rear Admiral Rick Williams has held a number of command positions throughout his years in the Navy. In addition, he has received several awards and medals for his service. One such award received by Rear Admiral Rick Williams is the Legion of Merit Award.
Originally approved and confirmed by an act of congress on July 20, 1942, the Legion of Merit Award was created to honor those who have shown extraordinary meritorious conduct while performing their duties. If the duty is performed that is not associated with war time, a condition exists that the act must include a quality that requires a remarkably complicated act performed in an extraordinary way.
The Legion of Merit Award is presented to members of the United States armed forces or to political or military figures from foreign countries. For U.S. armed forces personnel, there are four levels of Legion of Merit Awards, ranging from the lowest level Legionaire Award to the Officer, Commander, and the highest level is the Chief Commander Award.
